Cheguei, sei lá! (I am here, whatever!)

Decidi escrever um blog, outra vez... da última vez não deu muito resultado, e a coisa morreu cedo. Também estava em Inglaterra, e ali não havia tanta coisa interessante para contar ou mostrar: trabalho, trabalho e mais trabalho (está bem, algumas festas e bebedeiras...).

Não quero com isto dizer que não vou trabalhar no ano que vou estar no Brasil. Mas obviamente tudo vai ser muiiitttooo mais interessante e divertido, nem que seja com recurso à caipirinha e aos gelados dos frutos do Cerrado.

Por agora não temos feito nada de especial, pouco passeio e muito “papeleio”. Mas já temos CPF (numero de indentificação fiscal), o que já significa que somos gente e podemos comprar coisas. Nos primeiros tempos ficámos em casa do “chefe”, uma chácara (=vivenda) no meio do campo, e tivemos a agradável companhia da sua familia (com os gatos incluidos)... jogámos wii até fartar e eu fiquei oficialmente a campeã de boliche! Houve tambem muita festa, churrascada, chopp e caipirinha!

Entretanto já arranjamos um apartamento no 14º andar com dois quartos (sim, pensando em vocês!), que pertence à sogra do “chefe”. Alugar casa por agência envolve muita papelada (como tudo neste país), por isso esta foi a solução ideal. Mais importante ainda, já temos “celular”, objecto indispensável (?!) nestes tempos que correm. Só falta mesmo o carrinho para completar o ramalhete! A nossa casa fica perto do centro de Goiania, e a universidade fora, por isso o carro vai ser util para ir trabalhar e obviamente para dar uns bons passeios aqui pelo estado de Goiás.

Mas já nos estamos a integrar na vida de cá. Ontem fomos dançar forró com uns amigos (explicaram-nos que vem do inglês “for alll”), que é divertido, e é parecido com os nossos bailes mas com mais jogo de anca. Como o meu parceiro (Joaquín) dança sempre em cima dos meus pés, acho melhor mudar para o samba que parece ser mais seguro...

Primeiras impressões?

- Gente simpática e acolhedora.

- Diferenças sociais óbvias, apesar desta cidade até não ser muito pobre.

- Preços bastante semelhantes aos nossos, o que não é bom, tendo em conta que o ordenado mínimo aqui é de cerca de 250 euros... isto faz com que haja:

- Todos os tipos de créditos para comprar tudo, passando por roupa e implantes de silicone. Só espero conseguirmos crédito para comprar um carro em segunda mão, que aqui são muito caros...

- Cidades com prédios muito elevados, e todos muito juntos... florestas de betão. Uma mistura de moderno, megalómano, e “tosco”.

- Isto promete...

Note to self: pôr menos de 400 gr quando vou comer comida a peso, e não provar tudo de uma só vez, se não nem com academia me safo.

English version

I have decided to write a blog, again... last time didn’t work quite well, and I “closed” it very quickly.

Well, I was in England by that time, and there were not so many interesting things going on, just work, work and work (ok, and some parties….).

With this I don’t mean that I won’t be working here in Brazil, but of course (my horse) things will be much more interesting and fun, even if only due to caipirinhas and “Frutos do Cerrado” ice-creams.

I hope I can keep up this blog in two languages. I even thought on writing it in Spanish, but that would be too much. Please forgive me for any mistakes and for loosing myself in translations.

For now there is nothing special to tell, as we haven’t leaved this dull city and we have been busy with paperwork. But we already have the CPF (kind of tax payer number), meaning that we can be considered as someone and we can go shopping. Our first days here were spent in our “boss’s” place, a detached house in the countryside, together with his lovely family (and cats)… we played Wii until we dropped dead and I got top score in bowling! There were also a lot of parties, BBQs, chopp (beer) and caipirinha!

In the meantime we found a place to stay, a two-bedroom apartment on the 14^th floor (please come visit, we have the room!) that belongs to our boss’s mother in law. Renting a house through an agency is a nightmare as they ask for tons of paperwork (like in everything here), so this was the perfect solution. More importantly, we already have a mobile phone, indispensable object (?!) nowadays. We just need to get a car and we are all set! Our house sits close to the city center and the university campus is outside the city, so the car will be very useful not only to go to work, but also to go out on the weekends and visit the state of Goiás.

But we are starting to feel integrated here. Last night we went to place where we danced forró (our friends explained the word comes from the English words “for all”), and it was good fun, although Joaquin kept stepping on my feet. I think I will stick to samba, that seems safer…

First impressions?

- Nice, friendly and welcoming people.

- Obvious social differences, even if this city is not too poor.

- Very high prices (comparable to ours), which is not good as the minimum wage is only 250 euros…. Due to this there are:

- All sorts of credits, for clothes, cars, and silicone implants. I just hope we can get a credit to buy the second hand car that are VERY expensive.

- Cities with loads of very tall building, sitting very close to each other... like a concrete forest. A mixture of modern, megalomaniac (?) and coarse.

- This looks promising…

Note to self: don´t fill up my plate with more than 400 gr when I go out eating (here in most places restaurant food is sold by weight), and try not to taste everything at once, otherwise not even the gym will save me.
